The 40th Session of the National Assembly began in Islamabad this evening with Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi in the chair. This is the last session of the current parliamentary year as the new one would begin with the address of the President to the Joint Session of the Parliament on Saturday next.
At the outset, the Deputy Speaker administered oath to six members who were elected in the recently held by-elections took oath. Of them two belong to Pakistan Peoples Party and one each from PML [N], ANP and PML [F] besides one Independent. They are Prime Minister’s son Syed Ali Musa Gilani from NA-148 Multan, Natasha Daultana from NA-168 Vehari, Shaikh Tariq Rashid NA-149 Multan, Rashid Ali Khan NA-140 Kasur, Himatullah Mayar NA-9 Mardan and Syed Mustafa Mahmood from NA-195 Rahim Yar Khan.
The chair announced the panel of the Presiding Officers for the current session. Its members are: Nawab Yusuf Talpur, Afzal Sindhu, Zahid Hamid, Khushbakht Shujaat, Humayun Saifullah and Usman Khan Advocate.

The members who took oath today expressed their determination to serve the masses selflessly.
Syed Ali Musa Gilani said turnout in the recent by-elections was more than the general elections of 2008 which is reflective of people’s confidence in the Parliament. He said he has got mandate to work for creation of Saraiki province.
Himatullah Mayar lauded performance of the present Parliament which passed historic constitutional amendments resulting into greater provincial autonomy and independence of judiciary and the Election Commission.
Shaikh Muhammad Tariq Rashid called for steps to address the challenge of unemployment and poverty which are hurting the masses more.
Syed Mustafa Mahmood paid rich tributes to late Pir Pagara for leading PML [F] with dignity and honour.
Rashid Ahmad Khan and Natasha Daultana also vowed to work with determination to resolve problems of the people.
