Security arrangements for Joint Session reviewed

Islamabad: Security arrangements for the Joint Session of the Parliament being held on Saturday, was reviewed at a high-level meeting here on Friday. Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik chaired the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary, MOI, Director General, NCMC, Chief Commissioner ICT, IGP, Islamabad, SSP Security, DC, Islamabad and reps of Rangers and FC.

It was decided in the meeting that in addition to strict security arrangements for the day, special parking arrangements for various dignitaries have been made in exclusive enclosures.

It was decided that security of Islamabad especially security of Red zone will be enhanced and without ID Cards, no unauthorized visitor will be allowed to enter in red zone on March 17, 2012.

Extensive patrolling will be carried out around the parliament and in red Zone particularly on foot and horse tracks. It was further decided that Air Surveillance of the Islamabad and surrounding areas will be carried out before, during and after the parliament session till the participants are dispersed. Surveillance helicopters will have two professional Cameramen to make videos of the surveillance.

It was decided that Islamabad should be divided into zones around red zone from security point of view. A Superintendent of Police will be made incharge of each zone for ensuring security in his zone.

Comprehensive Traffic plan will be evolved for Joint Session of the parliament with inbuilt, mechanism for the search of the vehicles. PTV will indicate alternative routes for general public and particular routes for entry into parliament for the invitees. Snifer dogs will be deputed for checking against any planted explosive material.

NADRA will provide on line facility at the entry of parliament House, for verifying the ID Cards.
