Common people particularly lawyers community as well as Parliamentarians have strived hard for restoration of  judiciary and judicial system in the country as fair, just and expeditious delivery of justice to the people is essential for developing a sound and progressive society. He was expressing these views while talking to Chief Justice of Sudan and his delegation at Parliament House here today.

Chairman Senate told the Sudanese delegation that since induction of democratic government after 2008 elections, the foremost step taken by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was to strengthen judiciary via restoration of deposed judges.

Talking about achievements of the present democratic government vis-à-vis strengthening of judiciary as well as role of Parliament in this capacity, he told the delegation that Pakistani Parliament has played a key role in striking a balance of power and an equation of mutual respect between Parliament and Judiciary. Through constitutional reforms like 18th and 19th Constitutional Amendments provided for a judicial commission for appointment of judges to superior courts and a Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment with a mandate to give approval of the nomination made by the judicial commission.

He told the delegates that he himself remained the member as well as Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment and new institutional mechanisms ensure that only deserving and judicious people are appointed judges in superior courts. Establishment of Islamabad High Court in the capital is one more step ahead to be appreciated.

Sudanese Judges delegation thanked Chairman for his hospitality to invite them to visit Senate and Senate Hall.
