NA members . reservations on the maintenance work in parliment lodges


NATIONAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE & LIBRARY COMMITTEE MEETS


Islamabad; March 15, 2012: House & Library Committee of the National Assembly met under the Chairmanship of Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker, National Assembly in Parliament House today.

            The committee expressed its concern over the non implementation of recommendations of the Committee regarding the National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NAECHS) and directed the National Assembly Secretariat to actively pursue the case in the court against the officials who were found involved in the embezzlement and ask the Attorney of the National Assembly Secretariat to request the honourable court to vacate the stay order as it is a matter of public interest. Earlier, the committee was informed the officials who were found involved in the embezzlement in report of the special committee has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court and have got stay order from the court. It was further informed that National Assembly Secretariat is pursuing the case and hired the service of the well reputed attorney in order to get the stay order vacated. It was also decided to invite Chairman NAB in the next meeting of the committee for comments. The committee also asked the CDA to cooperate with the Administrator NAECHS for issuance of layout plan of the society.

The Members of the Committee express their reservations on the maintenance work carried out by the CDA in the Parliament Lodges. The Members of the committee were of the view that despite spending million of rupees to control the seepage in the Parliament Lodges, the problem still persist. The Members also registered their complaints about the poor cleanliness and janitorial services provided by the CDA in Parliament Lodges and the quality of the furniture. The Deputy Speaker directed the CDA to address the complaints made by the members on priority basis. The committee also discussed the construction of offices for the Chairmen Standing Committees, renovation of rooms in government hostel, lapse of supplementary grants for the maintenance of Parliament Lodges and renovation of cafeteria in the Parliament Lodges. The Committee was also informed that tendering process for renovation of cafeteria in the Parliament Lodges has been completed and the lowest bidder has been awarded the contract Cafeteria will bee functional soon.  

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Waqqas Akram, Minister of State, MNAs; Mrs. Belum Hasnain, Mr. Liaqat Ali Khan, Saira Afzal Tarar, Mrs. Asiya Nasir and Mr. Noor Alam Khan, Chairman CDA, Additional Secretary National Assembly Secretariat, Additional Secretary Cabinet Division, Deputy Commissioner(ICT) and other senior officers of the concerned department.
