not allot election symbols to such candidates and political parties under the proposed legislation.
Minister for Law Moula Bakhsh Chandio told National Assembly today that law is to be enacted providing for reelection in a constituency if at least ten percent of women votes are not cast.
He was responding to a call attention notice by Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho regarding reports that women were refrained from casting votes in the recent by-polls.
The Minister said if candidates or political parties also prevent women from casting their votes through a mutual agreement then the Election Commission may not allot election symbols to such candidates and political parties under the proposed legislation.
He said women were not prevented from casting their votes in all the constituencies where by-elections were held but this might have happened in some areas of KPK, FATA and Sindh.
