Joint session to debate new terms of Pak-US ties

The joint session of parliament will be held on Tuesday to debate new terms for Pak-US ties.

The main purpose of joint session is to discuss recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) headed by PPP Senator Raza Rabbani regarding new terms of engagement with the US with special focus on the issue of restoration of Nato supplies which were suspended after an attack on Pakistani check posts November last year.

Sources said that PCNS recommendations had given a broad outline of its relationship with the US, but issues like drone attacks and resumption of Nato supply route had been left vague.

Sources revealed that the government will table five laws for passing which include safety of wildlife, free legal help to poor persons, amendment in Muzarba companies ordinance and establishment of FC Institute of Engineering and Technology in Multan, and protection of women and children from domestic violence.

Sources told Online that although no final decision had been taken there is a strong possibility of in-camera session, which is expected to continue for three days. The session will be presided over by the NA Speaker Dr Fahmida Mirza.

It will be the 12th joint sitting of parliament since February 2008 general elections.

Sources said that the government is in contact with other political parties for the recommendations of PCNS while opposition parties will put pressure over the government.
