ISLAMABAD, March 09: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has appointed Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam as new Director General Inter-Services-Intelligence (ISI) by replacing incumbent DG ISI Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha.
The appointed has been made after the long consultations between President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Gilani and Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
It is worth mentioning here that Zaheerul Islam is performing duties as Corps Commander Karachi.
Zaheerul Islam would take charge of office on 18th of March after the retirement of General Shuja Pasha.
Islam has earlier served as the deputy director general of the ISI as a major general. He was then promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and moved to Karachi.
It is worth mentioning here that Zaheerul Islam has been appointed as 20th DG ISI. It is worth mentioning here that Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha had been appointed as DG ISI in October 2008.
