Islamabad, June 4th, 2012 Senators Muhammad Kazim Khan, Muhammad Talha Mehmood, Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Mrs. Kalsoom Parveen, Haji Muhammad Adeel and Mushahid Hussain Sayed were elected Chairpersons of the Senate Standing Committees on Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Interior and Narcotics Control, Railways, Cabinet Secretariat and Capital Administration and Development, Foreign Affairs, Kashmir Affaris and Gilgit Baltistan and Defence and Defece Production respectively. The Elections were held here today at the Parliament House. The proceedings of the election were conducted by Secretary Senate Iftikhar ullah Babar, in accordance with Rule 184 (1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012.
The Name of Senator Muhammad Kazim Khan was proposed as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs by Muhammad Jehangir Badar and was seconded by Senators Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah and Ahmed Hassan. For the Chairmanship of Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control, Senator Col. ® Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi proposed the name of Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood which was seconded by Senators Ch. Shujaat Hussain, Gul Muhammad Lot, Mukhtiar Ahmed Dhamrah and Begum Najma Hameed. Senator Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri’s name was proposed by Senator Mukhtiar Ahmad Dhamrah for the Chairmanship of Senate Standing Committee on Railways which was seconded by Senator Kamil Ali Agha. Whereas, the name of Senator Kalsoom Parveen was proposed as Chairperson for the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat and Capital Administration and Development by Senator Kamil Ali Agha and seconded by Senators Muhammad Talha Mehmood and Begum Najma Hameed. On the other hand the names of Senators Haji Muhammad Adeel and Mushahid Hussain Sayed were proposed for the Chairmanships of Senate Standing Committees on Foreign Affairs, Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan and Defence and Defence Production by Senators Muhammad Jahangir Badar and Deputy Chairman Senate Sabir Ali Baloch respectively. The proposed names of Chairmen of both the Committees were seconded by Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Haji Muhammad Adeel and Muhammad Ishaq Dar respectively.
Members of the respective Committees congratulated the new Chairpersons of their committees and assured of their cooperation in the running the affairs of the Committees smoothly.
Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected Chairpersons of the Committees thanked their members for reposing confidence in them and reiterated the resolve to work with honesty and devotion.
