Meeting of heads of allied parties in the Presidency‏, reiterated resolve to uphold supremacy of the Parliament as envisaged in the Constitution


Islamabad, 16 June 2012;
A meeting of heads of allied parties held in the Presidency Saturday night was jointly chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
The meeting was attended by Senator Ch. Shujaat Hussain and Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed of PML(Q), Senator Haji Adeel Ahmed Khan and Senator Zahid Khan of ANP,  Senator Babar Khan Ghouri and Mr. Haider Abbas Rizvi of MQM and  Senator Abbas Khan Afridi and Mr. Munir Khan Orakzai of FATA.
PPP leaders, Syed Khursheed Shah, Senaor Farook H Naek and Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar were also present during the meeting.
Briefing about the meeting, Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting reiterated resolve to uphold supremacy of the Parliament as envisaged in the Constitution.
The meeting appreciated the resolution passed by the Parliament endorsing the decision of the Speaker against sending reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan under Article 63(2) of the Constitution for the disqualification of the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. It said that the Speaker represents the dignity of the House.
The Spokesperson said that the meeting called for an expeditious and impartial enquiry into the case involving Malik Riaz and Dr. Arsalan in accordance with the Supreme Court verdict.
The meeting rejected notions of any conspiracy involving the government in the case of Malik Riaz and Dr. Arsalan and termed such reports as baseless and unfounded.
