Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira says we will win the war on terrorism and extremism through the power of pen and tolerance
He was addressing a function in Islamabad on Sunday arranged in connection with the National Book Day. It was in line with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani dialogue with the literary figures and intellectuals to develop book reading habit in the society.
Kaira said that we are fighting the war on terrorism from only one aspect of security‚ but it needs more efforts and dedication on the part of writers and literary figures to counter this menace.
The Information Minister said we need to develop and promote habit of dialogue but unfortunately this process was delinked during the dictators era which inflicted enormous damage to our values.
He said even in today 's modern technology time‚ importance of book reading has not reduced. He urged that we have to rebuild and reinvent book reading eagerness and interest.
He asked literary figures to come forward and send the Information Ministry their suggestions how to cope with this situation because the secret of development lies in creating public awareness.
Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi in her address of welcome said that to promote reading trend one travellers Club has been opened at Karachi airport and second one would be opened soon at Lahore airport.
On this occasion‚ a boy from Chitral Mohammad Manzoor Elahi was given the best award for reading book among the children with a cash prize of twenty thousand rupees.

Speaking at a poster exhibition in Islamabad on Sunday evening‚ the Information Minister said everyone has to play its role for changing the mindset of extremism and terrorism for a peaceful and tolerant society.
He said over the past few years‚ the country has witnessed widespread acts of terrorism.
The Minister said now there is tolerance in politics which is reflected in parliament and political circles.
He appreciated the students for public awareness campaign 'AMAN' that focuses on the responsiveness of the Pakistani public towards Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
