PAKISTAN-ARGENTINE SHOULD ENHANCE COOPEARION IN DIFFERENT FIELDS:

Chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has said Pakistan highly values its friendly ties with Republic of Argentine and we must enhance our cooperation in political sphere, trade and investment and other fields of mutual interest via frequent exchange of delegations. He was expressing these views in a meeting with H.E. Mr. Rodolfo J. Martin Saravia, Ambassador of Argentine at Parliament House today.

Talking about the relations between the two countries, Argentine Ambassador Rodolfo agreed with the Chairman that we must extract maximum benefits of our relations by increasing cooperation and people to people contacts. He said that particularly exchange of Parliamentary delegations and Parliamentary dialogue is very fruitful exercise leading to positive developments. He also informed the Chairman that Pakistan and Argentine have successfully integrated their Parliamentary Friendship Group and their visits and exchanges will start this year.

The Chairman also deliberated upon Pakistan’s sacrifices in both men and material terms to curb terrorism for the sake of peace and stability of the whole world. He said that Pakistan can not unilaterally fight war on terror and needs world s’ support particularly our friends.

Responding, Argentine Ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s role in fight against terrorism and said that the world acknowledges Pakistan’s sacrifices in this regard.  Developments in Afghanistan are very crucial for regional peace and stability and affect Pakistan as well. He expressed hope that things will move towards right direction. Ambassador Rodolfo told the Chairman that Argentine has also been a victim of terrorism.
Bokhari apprised the Ambassador about bicameral legislature in Pakistan comprising of National Assembly and Senate. He told him that Senate represents federation and has equal representation from whole of Pakistan. After the passage of 18th Constitutional Amendment minorities have been given 4 seats in the Upper House as we want harmony between different religions and sects in Pakistan.

Ambassador informed the Chairman that in near future Pakistani Foreign Minister is likely to visit Argentine which will be reciprocated by her counterpart. It will be a turning point for further engagements and enhancing cooperation in diverse fields ranging from trade, science and technology and will trigger frequent exchange of delegations from both sides.


Talking about Argentine’s dispute with UK regarding Falkland Islands, he told the Chairman that we are grateful for Pakistan’s support on this issue and hope this will continue in future as well. He expressed the desire that members of Parliament’s foreign relations committees from both sides should also have interaction and close contacts. He said Argentine is cognizant of Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India and wishes its peaceful resolution via dialogue.

The Chairman thanked for support on Kashmir issue and said that dialogue on negotiation table and a forum can prove fruitful for peaceful resolution of disputes as war is no solution.

Ambassador Rodolfo also presented a book titled “Pakistan’s Golden Thrones: an Argentine Journey by Tommy Heinrich” produced by Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Pakistan that vividly shows beauty of the country particularly in the northern regions.

The Chairman thanked the Ambassador for this token of love and called it symbol of strong bonds of friendship existing between the two friendly countries. He said that this book shows the interest and love of Argentinean people for Pakistan.
