ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN
Islamabad, the 21st April, 2012.- The Hon’ble Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Mr. Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan today visited Multan to review the arrangements for conduct of bye-election in the Constituency No. PP-194 Multan-I. He visited some polling stations of the constituency and held meeting with the contesting candidates and heard their concerns about the arrangements regarding bye-election. He assured them that all genuine concerns expressed by them will be addressed in accordance with law.
The Hon’ble Acting CEC also held separate meetings with the district administration and heads of other concerned departments including police. The District Coordination Officer, Multan gave a presentation about the arrangements made by them in order to hold the bye-election in a free, fair and impartial manner. The Regional Police Officer along with CPO, Multan also presented contingency plan and explained as to how security personnel will be deployed at the polling stations.
The Hon’ble Acting CEC at the close of the meeting directed all concerned that foolproof arrangements be made to ensure smooth, peaceful and transparent bye-election in the constituency. His lordship observed that at some of the polling stations, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be test-run/mock-tested and in that regard also directed that extra care will be taken to avoid any confusion amongst the voters while casting votes through EVMs. His lordship further directed that dummy names of candidates and dummy symbols will be used in EVMs and such mock-poll will have no effect on the actual results of the poll.
