Senior Bureaucrats visit Parliament House,Secretary Senate briefs

  Islamabad, 25th April, 2012
Participants of the 96th National Management Course visited Parliament House here today. Secretary Senate, Mr. Iftikharullah Babar briefed the senior officer about working and performance of both the Houses of Parliament including the role played by them in oversight of the Executive and their contribution in informed policy-making.

He said the role of Parliament has changed the world over and now  they are not mere legislative bodies but play a multifaceted role. Parliament can debate any issue national and international significance which has a direct or indirect impact on our foreign policy. Our parliament is vibrant and its Committees are effective, the Secretary said while replying to a question from a participant.

He also gave a detailed overview of the importance of Parliamentary system in nation-building and the role of Upper House in promoting national cohesion    and harmony among the federating units. Mr. Iftikharullah Babar comprehensively answered the questions asked by the participants regarding Senate and its various functions.
At the end, the delegation presented a memento to Secretary Senate and thanked him for cordial and warm welcome extended to them during their visit to the Senate of Pakistan.
