Election Commission emphasized the speeding up of work over updation/ preparation of separate electoral rolls

Islamabad, the 9th April 2012.- A meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan was held today under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Mian Shahkirullah Jan and attended by Hon’ble Members Election Commission, namely, Justice (Retd) Muhammad Roshan Essani, Justice (Retd) Riaz Kayani, Justice (Retd) Shazad Akbar Khan and Justice (Retd) Fazal-ur-Rehman. Mr. Akhtar Hussain Sabir, Acting Secretary, Election Commission and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
2. The meeting started with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Hon’ble CEC reviewed the overall progress of preparation of electoral rolls and directed to ensure credible and error-free electoral rolls at the earliest.
3. Keeping in view the direction of Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Commission emphasized the speeding up of work over updation/ preparation of separate electoral rolls and expressed satisfaction over the work for the forthcoming bye-elections in constituencies No. PP-243 D.G. Khan-IV and PP-245 D.G. Khan-VI of Provincial Assembly of Punjab, updated on the basis of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and approved revised schedule of all the stages for both the constituencies except the polling day which will remain the same i-e 7th May 2012.
4. The ECP also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Director Protocol, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad’s father who passed away after prolonged illness and will be buried today at 4:30 p.m. at his native town “Kohrr” at Fateh Jang. The Hon’ble CEC and Members ECP offered “Fateha” and in a message of condolence, they prayed to rest the departed soul in the eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity.=/
