Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan has been bestowed the prestigious and world-renowned “International Jurists Award - 2012” for his lordship’s unique and tremendous contribution in the field of Administration of Justice, which is being awarded by the International Council of Jurists. This Award is in recognition of the tireless and fearless endevours made by the Hon’ble Chief Justice towards Administration of Justice in the country against all odds.
The Award Ceremony is scheduled for 28.05.2012 at London and the Award will be presented by Rt. Hon. Lord Phillips, President of Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in the presence of Chief Justices, Law Ministers, Members of Parliament, Bar leaders, law teachers and journalists from different countries specially invited for the prestigious occasion.
The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan had put up great resistance against the then Military dictator an also led the historical movement of restoration of Judiciary.
. In the year 2007 Mr. Justice Ifitkhar Muhammd Chaudhry, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan was also awarded The Medal of Freedom, the higest honour given by the Harvard Law School Association. During the award presenting ceremony Dean Kagan, who presented the Award said that his contribution to the rule of law was inestimable.
The Award is a regular feature of the International Council of Jurists and some of the earlier recipients include Mrs. Justice Rosalyn Higgins, President of International Court of Justice; The Rt. Lord Phillips, Chief Justice of United Kingdom, Ms. Justice Beverley McLachlin, Chief Justice of Canada; Mr. Justice Awn S. Al-Khasawneh, Vice President of International Court of Justice, etc.
