Islamabad: April 13, 2012
Today the independent Judiciary has given a gift to the nation by indicting a powerful person. The government coalition is effectively a corruption union. Chairman PTI Imran Khan called on the Prime Minister to immediately resign from office and reiterated that if the Prime Minister would not respect the judiciary, how the people could be expected to do the same. It was disappointing sight to see the coalition march in step with the Prime Minister to the Supreme Court. They had not gone to court to protect national interest but they all wanted to escape accountability. They are well aware that an accountability drive is initiated they will be caught in corruption cases. Government coalition is a corruption union which is hell bent to fill its own coffers.
Imran Khan declared the protests of the PPP against the Court’s decision a shameful act and declared that it was a historic day for the courts when they indicted a powerful person. It is the first time that the biggest robbers of the country have been brought to justice which is why they have all joined together. I congratulate the entire nation and particularly the lawyer community because their struggle for an independent judiciary has paid off today. He further stated that even though some government partners were with the PTI in the struggle for restoration of judiciary but now due to their support for the status quo, they are standing with Gillani. The leader of the PTI warned that if the Judiciary was pressured in anyway, the party would initiate an unprecedented protest in the country’s history. When the tsunami marches towards Islamabad, they will all know which the nation is standing on. Imran Khan addressed the Prime Minister as “Mr. Gillani” and stated that he is no longer the current PM of the country. He stated that Gillani indulged in contempt of court to protect the corrupt of the President. He stated that in order to oblige the NAB Chairman, the corrupt government allocated him a piece of land.
Referring to Article 204 of the Constitution, senior PTI leader Hamid Ali Khan dismissed Aitzaz Ahsan’s statement that ‘scandalization of court’ was not part of the indictment.
