A meeting on “Prime Minister’s Programme for the Talented Students of Balochistan” was held today here at PM’s House under the leadership of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in which it was decided to incrementally increase the number of talented students from Balochistan from existing 150 to 500 in the prestigious education institutions of the country.

While addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister said education was the most fundamental for human development and the strongest instrument for reducing poverty, improving health and bringing peace and stability in society.

The Prime Minister said that in order to give a jump start to education amongst Balochistan’s youth, an ambitious programme had been undertaken in all 30 Districts.

Under the Programme, the selected students would receive education from class VIII to XII in high quality prestigious institutions of the country. At a later stage a linkage could be developed with higher education for the beneficiaries of this scheme, the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said that he was pleased to note that despite a very tight timeframe, the Capital Administration and Development Division achieved the target of getting admission for 150 students in the first year of the scheme, 2011.

It was for the first time that girl students of Balochistan from all 30 districts were availing the facility of quality education at Federal Government’s expense in reputed educational institutions of the country, the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said that we looked forward to developing leadership qualities, morality and ethics, besides national cohesion through these students as goodwill Ambassadors of Balochistan.

While appreciating the efforts of all those who had worked hard to make this programme a success, the Prime Minister said that he would also like to underscore the importance of making it financially and administratively sustainable.

Those who attended the meeting included Mr. Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Minister for CAD, Mr. Hazar Khan Bajarani, Minister for IPC, Mrs. Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to PM, Principal Secretary to PM, Mr. Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Secretary CAD, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Awan, Secretary Information Technology, Rana Asad Amin, Acting Secretary Finance, Mr. Anis-ul-Hasnain Musavi, Secretary IPC, Mr. Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad, Chief Secretary Balochistan, Mr. Ahmad Bux Lehtri, Secretary Wafaqai Mohtasib, Mr. Saeed Ahmad Khan, Former Secretary IT, Mr. Junaid Iqbal Choudhry, Former Secretary CAD and other officials.=
