Zhang Hongwei, Chairman Orient Group of China, calls on the President‏ Of Pakistan


Islamabad, 07 May 2012:
Mr. Zhang Hongwei, Chairman Orient Group of China, today called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr. Mr. Zhang Hongwei was accompanied by Ms. Christine Fu, President United Energy Group (UEG), Mr. Song Yu, Vice President UEG, Mr. Tariq Khamisani, President UEG Petroleum Pakistan, Mr. Lin Yang and Mr. Zhang Wei. Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Mr. Liu Jian was also present.

Senator Dr. Asim Hussain, Petroleum Minister, Syed Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister for  Water & Power, Mr. M. Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to the President, Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar, Pak Ambassador to China Mr. Masood Khan and other senior officials were present from Pak side.


Chairman Orient Group briefed the President about his company’s business ventures in Pakistan.

The President while highlighting the traditional all-weather and time-tested Pak-China friendship appreciated Orient Group for taking lead in the Chinese investment in Pakistan. He said that the traditional friendship of the two countries was being transformed into economic terms and Pakistan was trying to tap the full potential of the economic and commercial relations.



The President also appreciated close association of Orient Group with Pak- China Joint Energy Working Group saying that the JEWG has a tremendous potential of extending cooperation in all the sectors such as hydro, thermal, coal, solar wind and civil nuclear.


While noting the increased production of their petroleum project, the President expressed the hope that the company would be able to further enhance its production of oil by tapping new resources.


The President also invited the corporation to set up oil refinery at Karachi port. While assuring all necessary facilitation by the Government of Pakistan the President said that the corporation has the required competence for undertaking  such a project.



The President expressed the hope that the company would undertake other oil and gas exploration, infrastructure and social projects in Pakistan. He said that we look forward to benefit from Orient Group’s expertise in port development, financial services, banking and investment.



Mr. Zhang Hongwei thanked the President for meeting and for the support of the Government to his company in its business ventures. He said that Orient Group was keen to further expand its investment and businesses in Pakistan.
