NA DEPUTY SPEAKER DIRECTS FOR STRICT SURVEILLANCE OF PARLIAMENTARY LODGES TO CHECK THEFT CASES

Islamabad May 8, 2012: Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly has reprimanded Capital Development Administration and Islamabad Capital Territory Police for their failure to prevent theft cases in Parliament Lodges. He directed CDA and ICT Police to immediately take stringent measures to prevent reoccurrence of such cases in future. He gave these directions while chairing a meeting in Parliament House, today to discuss increasing instances of theft in Lodges.

Officers of Capital Development Authority and ICT Police apprised the meeting about the pace of ongoing investigation regarding theft of electronic and other items from the apartments of Parliamentarians. They said that employees of CDA were being interrogated and the investigation will conclude soon and all those found responsible would be taken to task. Additional Secretary (Cabinet) said that occurrence of such incidents in such a high profile area was regrettable. He suggested for involving police personnel into interrogation since safety and security of the premises fall into the mandate of ICT Police. He also suggested for regular intelligence profiling of all the personal staff of parliamentarians and CDA staff should be held on regularly basis besides transferring all the existing CDA personnel who have completed three years of their service in Parliament Lodges.

Faisal Karim Kundi directed the D.I.G (Security) ICT Police to immediately involve all police personnel into interrogation of theft cases, conduct intelligence profiling of the staff besides deployment of additional staff to check the theft instances and entry of unauthorized persons into the precincts of lodges. He directed to keep the National Assembly Secretariat posted about the progress of the investigation. Meanwhile, CDA was directed to serve notices to the unauthorized occupants of servant quarters in lodges and subsequently evict them from said quarters. He also directed CDA to install additional CCTV surveillance camera for proper monitoring of the premises.

The meeting was attended by Secretary and Additional Secretary National Assembly, Additional Secretary (Cabinet), Member (Engineering) CDA, D.I.G (ICT Police) and other officers of concerned departments.
