M. Tariq Malik, Chairman NADRA, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at Prime Minister’s House today and presented him state of the art Smart NIC Card. The Smart NIC Card has 36 security features and technologically is the most advanced card in the world today.
The Prime Minister directed Chairman NADRA to give a presentation to Cabinet as how much it would be easier for people to avail themselves of financing and banking facilities with no risk, prior to its formal launch in the country.
The Chairman apprised the Prime Minister that the Smart NIC Card would help the government to achieve the objectives of welfare state as it would help the holders of the card to access the entitled cash disbursement programmes, financial transactions, branchless banking, health insurance, life insurance and electronic voting.
The Chairman also told the Prime Minister that 96 percent of the adult population of the country had been registered with NADRA and about nine crore twenty lac identity cards had been issued to these eligible voters.
The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of NADRA to bring Pakistan on the horizon of developed countries who have successfully applied this technology. It will be a great source of convenience to the people as they need not to go to banks to avail financial facilities, the Prime Minister added.
