Islamabad July , 2012: House Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly met in Parliament House, this evening with Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza in the chair to discuss the business for the 44th Session of the National Assembly.
After thorough discussion it was decided that the current session of the National Assembly will continue till Friday 13th July, 2012 and the sittings will be held in mornings except on Wednesday. It was also decided that besides taking up legislative business for passage, matters of public importance would also be taken up for discussion.
Dr. Fehmida Mirza congratulated Treasury and Opposition for unanimously confirming the nomination for the appointment as Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan. She said that the unanimous appointment of Chief Election Commissioner will ensure an independent Election Commission which is imperative for free and fair elections in the country.
Madam Speaker asked the Representatives of Government and Opposition to forward the names of MNAs from their respective parties for the NA Committees to be constituted to approve the nominations for the Chairpersons of the National Commission on Status of Women and National Commission for Human Right. She also agreed for constitution of a Special Committee to look into the causes of unfortunate death of Mrs. Fauzia Wahab and suggest future guidelines for the provincial governments to avoid such incidents in future. The Speaker also impressed upon the Treasury and Opposition Representatives to ask their MNAs to actively participate in the meetings of Special Committee on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) since the said committee was lagging behind in terms of task assigned to it.
The meeting was attended by Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Minister for Religious Affairs and MNAs Nawab Yousaf Talpur, Dr. Abdul Kadir Khanzada, Mr. Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan, Syed Jawad Hussain, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir and Ms. Jamila Gillani.
