Latest drone attack, first major gift to Pakistan after the Government’s disastrous decision to open NATOsupply Senator Khurshid

Islamabad (July 7, 2012):  In a press statement issued today the Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan ex-Senator Prof. Khurshid Ahmad has described that the latest drone attack on North Waziristan and killing 24 persons is the first major gift to Pakistan after the Government’s disastrous decision to open supply routes to America and NATO Forces.  “This clearly shows the total failure of the present Government’s so called strategy of engagements with the US”, he stressed and added that things are changing fast and the Parliament and the nation should respond to protect its sovereignty and interests. He appealed to the nation to participate in the national protest which should continue till the Government stops this policy of surrender and humiliation and moves quickly towards new elections which could lead to change of leadership through democratic process.

Prof. Khurshid has also taken strong exception to the claim of the Foreign Minister and our Ambassador in the US that Pakistan has been able to get apology from the US. “The statement of Hillary Clinton was: “We are sorry for the loss suffered by the Pakistan military and that “Foreign Minister Khar and I acknowledge the mistakes that resulted in the loss of military lives” — this is not an apology but the slap on the face of Pakistan. The Wall Street General in its yesterday’s editorial has rightly described in one sentence that “Pakistan has paid the highest price for their early agreement”.

Prof. Khurshid while further reminding the Foreign Minister and people of Pakistan said that after the above statement of the US Secretary of State we find that there is no change in US policy and conceding to Pakistan’s demand, and reminded those  who are trying to hoodwink and mislead the people that on December 4, 2011 just  one week after Salalah the US President Barrack Obama himself called President Zardari on Sunday to personally condole the death of 24 Pakistani soldiers in NATO air strike stating  that “we are very clear that this regrettable incident was not  a deliberate attack on Pakistan” and reiterated the US strong commitment to further investigation.

Prof. Khurshid further observed that who will deny that Pakistan refused to accept that regret and condolence, and the Parliament demanded “unconditional apology, complete stoppage of drone attacks, and re-negotiations with the US and NATO in respect of all related matters and revisiting and reformulating an independent  foreign policy aimed at political solution to the problem and bringing an end to war in Afghanistan,  and added that  propaganda machinery of the government cannot make the people close their eyes. Parliament‘s resolution has been betrayed, Pakistan’s independence and sovereignty has been compromised and killing of another 24 persons again in one go on Pakistan soil after earlier killing of 24 at Salalah, which initiated the ban on supply routes, is an ironic message to the people of Pakistan as to what the present Government has received from so-called US expression of sorrow. “It is clear that American’s war against Pakistan continues and the drone attacks are the central part of that. Now it is for the Pakistanis to decide how and how far they would protect their independence and honour and get rid of the leadership that has betrayed them”, he concluded.
