Prime Minister called ON newly appointed Federal Secretaries

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that bureaucracy is a linchpin in the administrative system and it has highly important role in ensuring effective and timely delivery of services through effective governance.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to the newly appointed Federal Secretaries who called on him at the PM House today.

The Prime Minister said that the people expected of bureaucracy to demonstrate vision, innovation and out of box approach in addressing their problems.

The Prime Minister said that the role of the civil servants had been transformed from being provider and regulator of services to being catalyst, enabler and facilitator.

Referring to fast-paced changes in the domain of public service, the Prime Minister said that massive transformation had taken place in the style and concept of governance, putting an added responsibility on the civil servants to deliver services in the most effective manner.

The Prime Minister said that people’s increased access to information, their greater empowerment and imperatives of socio-economic development on sustainable basis had rendered the old tools of administration obsolete and outdated.

“In an environment of perfect competition between the public and private sectors, bureaucracy has both an opportunity and a challenge at hand,” the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said that fruits of democratic governance would reach its intended destination and bureaucracy should play a proactive role in this regard. He said that democracy had heightened expectations of people from the government and it was now responsibility of the elected leadership and civil bureaucracy to make sure that their expectations were met.

The Prime Minister said that he was confident that the newly appointed Federal Secretaries had the requisite experience and commitment to make a difference in the lives of the people. I am sure that you would measure up to confidence reposed in you by the democratic government and discharge your responsibilities befittingly imbued with a mission to provide relief to the masses and ensure greater transparency and efficiency in your respective Divisions and Ministries, he added.

The Secretaries thanked the Prime Minister for reposing confidence in them and assured him that they would do their utmost to come up to his expectations.
