Pakistan’s Foreign Minister to visit Sri Lanka with an aim to bolster ties




The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar will be visiting Sri Lanka from 1st to 3rd August, 2012, at the invitation of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.

During her three day visit, Hina Rabbani Khar will call on the President of the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, HE Mahinda Rajapaksa and will also meet several top leaders of Sri Lanka.

Discussions will be held between the two sides for strengthening political, defense, cultural, tourism, media, economic, business and trade relations while forging strong bonds between the two nations.

The visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral ties between the people of the two countries which date back to the days of the Buddhist civilization and have been marked by a shared interest in regional peace and stability.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 1948, the two countries have consistently maintained close, cordial and a mutually supportive relationship.

Hina Rabbani Khar comes from a political family and has played a pivotal role in the political arena of Pakistan.  She has held various key position including serving as Minister of State for Economic Affairs Division from 2005-07, Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs Division from 2008-11 and Minster of State for Foreign Affairs in 2011 before becoming the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs in July 2011.

She has graduated from prestigious institutions like Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and University of Massachusetts Amherst USA.
