ISLAMABAD, Aug 09: National Assembly Standing Committee on Anti-Narcotics has recommended sealing all 62 retail and 8 whole sale shops in Provincial capital Karachi.
Committee has also issued the notice to Secretary National Regulations and Services Imtiaz Inayat Elahi for his absence from meeting of committee on the issue allotment of ephedrine quotas.
Committee has directed the Secretary to appear before the committee with last five years record of allotment of ephedrine quotas.
The Committee has also directed that the grand operation should be started against illegal wine factories immediately.
During the meeting it has been revealed not only wine is being sold on large scale but also it has been sold to male and female students of colleges near the shops of colleges.
Chairman Standing Committee Murtaza Javed Abbasi said that he himself checked this situation and observed it with another member of committee that wine was being openly sold to female students near shops of colleges in Karachi.
The Standing Committee on Anti-Narcotics held its meeting in Parliament House on Thursday. Committee has taken notice on wine purchasing at large scale in Karachi.
Secretary Excise and Taxation Manzoor Ahmad Memon told the committee that there are 62 retail and 8 whole sale shops in Karachi.
According to Laws wine can be sold to non-Muslims, and it is prohibited for non-Muslim women and young below the eighteen. He also confessed that the violation of law is being done. He added that there is no doubt of illegal selling of wine.
He said that the illegal factories of wine have been established in close streets of slum areas of Karachi. Police have many obstacles in these areas for raid but police must have to take action.
