Islamabad, 24August 2012: National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has been assigned to develop and commission Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) on behalf of FIA as a key technology partner to replace PISCES at 26 entry/exit points across the county including all international airports, land routes, railway stations and seaports for immigration processing, NADRA spokesperson stated this in a statement issued here today.It is indigenously developed system designed to replace US origin PISCES system with many new additional features. The system has been designed and tailored specifically as per immigration laws of Pakistan.This helps prevent illegal entry, use of counterfeit documents, human smuggling, and other travel fraud.
IBMS has been successfully launched and deployedsince February 2011 in collaboration with FIA and currently operational at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad,Jinnah International Airport Karachi, Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar and Torkham Land Route and now ready to formally launch at Allam Iqbal International Airport Lahore on 25 August 2012.Minister for Interior Senator A. Rehman Malik, is expected to be the Chief Guest on this launch of IBMs at Lahore Airport.
Already 90% of total traffic has been shifted to IBMS for immigration processing; remaining 10% is expected to be linked with the system in few months, said spokesperson.
NADRA spokesperson further elaborated that with the induction of this system centralized databank is available for all stakeholders for provision of traveler information and access to Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and NADRA databases to further authenticate the travel documents;thus helping in eradicating menace ofIllegal Travel Documents, Human Smuggling and entry/exit of undesirable elements.Link is also provided to law enforcement agencies to better equip them to fight against crime.
While shedding light on its features she said IBMS is designed to Document and Store the entire process starting from Visa Issuance till Departure and Arrivals from the Country thus preventing Illegal Human Trafficking as well as Illegal Immigrants to flee from / to the Country.IBMS has been equipped with the latest technologies like advance fingerprint matching, specialized handling for different categories of travelers and scalability for integration with other national databases.
