UN envoy for Afghanistan meets Maulana Fazalur Rahman


ISLAMABAD, June,  27,  2013:  The Special Representative of the Secretary General on  Afghanistan Jan Kubis met with Maulana Fazalur Rahman, the Chief of JUI-F and apprised him of the UN' efforts  leading up to  Doha Office of the Afghan Taliban.


A statement issued by , Spokesperson,  Maula Fazalur Rahman   said that the Ambassador  linked the peace in Pakistan  with  peace in Afghanistan. " This is why it is very important that Pakistan continues to play its role of facilitating Afghan-led and Afghan owned peace talks", he said.

Mr Kubis said that UN will continue  to be engaged with Pakistan and other regional countries for a  lasting solution  for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He also dispelled the impression that Pakistan was being bypassed.
The Ambassador  underscored the UN's commitment to a strong bilateral relationship with Pakistan based on respect and mutual interest.
 He said that the UN supported a more stable, secure, and prosperous future for the people of Pakistan.


Maulana Fazalur Rahman praised the UN for realising  the importance of Pakistan role in facilitating Doha process.
He said that we  fully support Afghan reconciliations and urged the UN to remain engaged in supporting role to  Doha process. He said that there will be hiccups but all stakeholders should continue the path of talks and do not get discouraged.


The UN delegation comprised Vadim Nazarov , Chief political officer UNAMA,
Colombe de Nicolay - Special Assistant to the SRSG, Raana Rahim, Head of Office  UNAMA Pakistan.
